uckland Fringe is coming...
27 February to 22 March 2009
Every Festival and every city needs a Fringe and in 2009 Auckland is getting one! A heady mix of in your face drama, off the wall dance, street art, music, beat poetry, DJs and decadence is expected when the unconventional unleash their finest creative genius early 2009 for the first ever Auckland Fringe.
Auckland Fringe 2009 is a new venture supported by THE EDGE® and Auckland Festival and will be a platform for independent artists to present their work in their own way; and for audiences to experience a variety of eclectic arts experiences.
Kicking off one week before Auckland Festival 2009, the Auckland Fringe programme will run from February 27 to March 22, 2009. The inner city’s Basement will become the hub of the Auckland Fringe with a full programme on offer including major opening and closing festival events designed to infect this popular venue with fringe fever.
“Like similar festivals around the world, Auckland Fringe will offer an uncensored, open access festival programme that aims to create a critical mass of arts opportunities in Auckland over February and March.”
THE EDGE® Associate Director, Arts Programmes Craig Cooper
“Now the Auckland Festival is established as part of the Auckland cultural landscape, the addition of a Festival Fringe will provide more opportunities for artists at a time when audiences are at their most adventurous and enthusiastic.”
Associate Director of Programming for Auckland Festival Mark Burlace
